Buju Biography (Early Life, Career, Net Worth)
Buju is a viral sensation, gradually establishing himself as a promising Nigerian music star. He draws inspiration to create music from his personal experiences and environment. His unbeatable ability to tell stories in his music while including vivid melodies and harmony has earned him a legion of fans. He has also caught the attention of some of the country's bigwigs like Burna Boy, who have allowed him to work with them. Buju's biography is a reflection of his journey.
Early Life and Education:
Born into a middle-class family in Lagos State in 1997, Buju’s roots trace back to Awka Ibom State.
Raised by his mother in Gbagada before moving to Mowe, Ogun State, Buju’s affinity for music sprouted during his school years. His eclectic taste in music, ranging from D’banj to 9ice, shaped his early influences. Tragically, he lost his beloved mother to cancer.
Career Beginnings:
Buju’s musical journey commenced in junior secondary school in 2011 under the moniker “Drizzle.” Joining the choir and performing at social events, he showcased his budding talent.
Despite a hiatus during university, where he explored other interests, his love for music resurged in 2017. Inspired by reggae and dancehall artists, including Buju Banton, he honed his craft and developed his unique sound.
In February 2018, Buju released “Catch a Vibe” and “A Day in Lagos,” gaining initial recognition on SoundCloud and Twitter. However, it was the track “Spiritual” that marked his breakthrough.
Unable to afford a collaboration with Zlatan Ibile, he cleverly incorporated Zlatan’s adlibs in a Twitter video, catching the artist’s attention. The resulting collaboration catapulted Buju into the spotlight in June 2019.
In 2020, Buju’s path intersected with his idol Burna Boy, leading to the remix of “L’Enu.” Burna Boy not only featured in the song but also funded the music video, solidifying their collaboration.
Noteworthy Songs:
Buju’s discography includes hits such as “A Day in Lagos,” “Catch a Vibe,” “L’Enu,” and “Feeling” with Ladipo. His 2021 EP, “Sorry I’m Late,” released under “To Your Ears Entertainment,” showcases his versatility and growth as an artist.
Record Label:
Initially unsigned, Buju gained recognition independently. However, after the success of “L’Enu” remix with Burna Boy, he joined Spaceship Collective.
Upon the expiration of his contract in April, he opted not to renew, choosing independence. His latest EP, “Sorry I’m Late,” released under “To Your Ears Entertainment,” suggests Buju’s ownership of this new record label.
